More than 40 people from Boxford and neighbouring villages attended a meeting last week to discuss details of a course in local history which the Stoke-by-Nayland Centre of Community Activities is proposing to sponsor.
This course would take the place of the Cambridge University Board of Extramural Studies course on "Man, Religion, and Society" which had had to be discontinued.
Mr. P. Northeast, a Suffolk historian, who will conduct the course, was delighted with the response and explained that in a course of only ten lectures it would not be possible to cover, even superficially the history of Boxford and district from ancient times to the present day.

At the buffet supper which is being held at the Village Hall on Saturday next, an artist's impression in colour of the proposed pavilion to be built on the Croft Recreation Ground will be displayed together with plans of the field and suggestions for further development. It is also hoped to announce a more definite estimate of the cost and the amount which will have to be raised locally.
The presentation of a cheque, representing the proceeds of the Table Tennis Marathon will be made by members of the Youth Club and the draw for the special prize of £10 in the "Little Ernie" will be made. A sweepstake on the Grand National has also been organised and this will be launched in the course of the evening.

For 50 hours last weekend, six lads, members of the Boxford Youth Club, kept a game of table tennis going continuously in the Village Hall.
This was part of the Youth Club's effort, devised and organised by themselves, to raise money for the Boxford Community Council Pavilion Building Fund and its success can be measured by the sum realised - no less that £130.

The death occurred recently in Sudbury of Mrs. Edith May Grimwood, of Swan Street, Boxford. She was 73.
Mrs. Grimwood was born in Stoke-by-Nayland and moved with her parents, Mr and Mrs. Richardson, to Edwardstone Post Office when she was still very young. She was married in 1917 to Mr. Harry Grimwood whose father had established a general store in Stone Street.
All her married life was spent in Swan Street where she opened a similar store to that of her father-in-law, the two businesses being combined when he died.
Mrs Grimwood's husband died in 1957 after a long illness.
Her life in Boxford was a busy one. She not only directed the business most efficiently but also found time to support every good cause - religious or secular - which appealed for her help.

Plans are well in hand for the village buffet supper at the Village Hall on Saturday, January 24, to launch the appeal on behalf of the Pavilion Building Fund. This is not intended as a money raising effort in itself. Its object is to let the village know what is being planned and by this means to interest as many people as possible in the project. There will also be the draw for the special prize of £10 for contributors to Little Ernie, together with other attractions. Already many promises of help have been received and it is hoped that everyone interested in the future of the village will support the council. Tickets are now on sale at the modest price of 4s.

Many people in Boxford were very sorry to hear of the death on New Year's Day of Mr. H. C. (Charlie) Raynham, which took place in a London hospital.
Charlie, who would have been 82 on 9th January, was born in Aldham and came from a farming family. He was engaged in farming at Kersey before moving to Boxford in 1909 where, at different times, he farmed Hill Farm and Brickhouse Farm. He had not been in good health recently.
