Action by Mr. Keith Stainton, Sudbury's M.P., means schoolchildren at Boxford will no longer have to walk in the road.

And Mr. Peter Lowe, headmaster of the Boxford Primary School, said last week: "I was beginning to feel that nothing would be done until there was a fatal accident."

The danger spot was the road bridge near Boxford church. Many schoolchildren cross the bridge to and from school, but there is no footpath.

Now, after the school’s Parent-Teacher Association asked Mr. Stainton’s help, a grant of £675 has been made towards the cost of a footbridge by the Ministry of Transport.

At a meeting of the Boxford Community Council held last Monday in the Village Hall, Mr. Ralph Tugman, the chairman, made special mention of the successful functions which had been held to raise funds for the payment of the village's share of the cost of the pavilion it was hoped to erect on the Croft Recreation Ground.

The dance organised by Mrs. Tarbet and her helpers brought in £38 and was so much enjoyed that it is hoped to repeat it on 30th May; the "Going for a Song" evening at The Fleece, arranged by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Downes and a committee, also raised £38; the sweepstake on the Grand National was not as profitable as had been hoped but the fund had benefited to the extent of £13 10s. 0d.
