The annual meeting of Boxford Community Council was held at the Village Hall on Friday evening and the attendance was most encouraging. Between 30 and 40 were present and keen interest was shown in the many subjects which came up for discussion.
Mr. Ralph Tugman, the chairman, gave a comprehensive report on the year's working. It had, he said, been a year of considerable achievement but it had had it's disappointements. On the credit side, we had managed to obtain the promise of a grant to build the pavilion; we had bought, restored, and erected a hut which provided temporary changing accomodation and storage of equipment; we had bought a second-hand Land Rover and gang mowers which enabled us to cut the grass without calling upon the generosity of local farmers; and considerable use had been made of the football pitches and the children's playground.

This match was marred by the fact that Waldingfield only fielded eight players, so the game was somewhat onesided.
From the start Boxford swept into the attack and they were soon three goals up, scored by Billy Buckle, Dave Wright and Keith Munson.

The monthly meeting of the Boxford, Edwardstone, and Groton Branch of the British Legion was held on Friday last at the White Hart, Boxford. In the absence of Mr. J. A. Stedman the chair was taken by Mr. J. Saunders. There was a fair attendance of members.
Mr. J. Saunders reported that a joint meeting of the Entertainments Committee and members of the Women's Section recommended that a Social Evening should be organised for Saturday, April 25 in the Village Hall and that it should take the form of a Buffet Supper with dancing and games. The main aim was to attract new members to both sections and the price of the tickets was fixed at 5s. It was hoped to arrange for a bar. Mr. Saunders emphasised that this was not intended as a money raising effort; it was a 'Get-together' so that newcomers to the village might learn more about the activities of the branch and perhaps join it. The meeting wholeheartedly supported the suggestions and plans will go ahead.

The dance at the Village Hall on Saturday evening, organised by Mrs. Olive Tarbet on behalf of the Community Council Pavilion Fund, was very well attended and made a profit of over £38. The music was provided by 'Brian and Mick' from Sudbury and this group adds to their popularity each time they visit Boxford. Everyone appeared to enjoy themselves thoroughly and Mrs. Tarbet and all her helpers are to be congratulated for providing such a lot of pleasure to so many.

The anger was expressed when there was a long discussion on the recent report prepared by the West Suffolk Planning Department on the future development of the county.
In this report Boxford is classified as a village where limited areas of land may be released for housing in a phased programme of development taking into account the varying factors relating to the village as set out in the report.
